A Dynamic Workshop

If you missed the Historic Preservation workshop Wednesday, you missed an exciting and thought-provoking event! Donovan Rypkema’s data and graphs left no doubt that historic preservation is key to the economic health and vitality of a city, while Mike Bedenbaugh illustrated the rules of historic preservation, beginning with, “Old buildings that are deteriorated and underused are a reflection of dysfunctional owners, not an inherent dysfunction of the building.” Kristopher King brought home the overwhelming need to protect Aiken’s most valuable assets. All this was done with an eloquence and energy that kept the audience engrossed. We even received positive feedback from the several city leaders who attended!

Mr. Rypkema’s presentation with all his data is linked here, and in the next two weeks, we will have the presentation in its entirety available on YouTube. Watch for news.
